Solidarity Center’s long support for Algerian trade unions has included transformative education to build knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms and rules affecting workers in the global economy, advance working women’s equality in the union and broader society, reach out to young people by providing a space for them to organize and mobilize worker voices and actions for labor rights and decent work.
As Algeria transitions from a difficult period of governance, a key priority of the Solidarity Center’s future program will be to support Algerian trade unions to advocate for the full implementation of International Labor Organization conventions 87 and 98 on Freedom of Association and the Right to Organize and Bargain Collectively, both of which the government of Algeria has ratified.
